Jorge Sierra
Jorge Sierra graduated with extraordinary award in medicine and surgery in 1979, and between 1980 and 1995 he was a member of staff at the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, where he did his doctorate with summa cum laude qualification. During 1995 and 1996 he worked at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, US. Between 1997 and 2023 Dr Sierra was the Director of Service at the Hospital Sant Pau, and since 2006 he has been a full professor at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. In 2013 he made a second stay in the US, this time at the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida. Dr Sierra was a member of the Board and the Executive Board of the European Hematology Association between 2008 and 2015. He has lectured and presented papers at multiple universities, hospitals, and congresses in the US, Europe, and across the world. Dr Sierra has received several awards during his scientific and healthcare career, has been a member of executive committees of societies and foundations, and has been president of the Catalan Society of Hematology and Hemotherapy and the Spanish Society of Hematology and Hemotherapy. He has also organized congresses in Spain and abroad with more than 12,000 attendees. Dr Sierra is an academic of medicine and has published more than 500 articles in journals of the highest international prestige, such as The New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of the American Medicine Association (JAMA), The Lancet, Nature Reviews in Clinical Oncology, and Blood.
